Fall Protection Alberta

OHS-compliant roof anchors, harnesses, lanyards, and PPE — Canada-stocked and shipped fast to Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, and every corner of Alberta.

Ships to Alberta Canada-Stocked CSA Z259 Certified Alberta OHS Code Part 9 WCB Ready
Worker on Alberta rooftop wearing fall protection harness and safety equipment

Alberta runs one of the most active OHS enforcement environments in the country — and with good reason. Falls are among the leading causes of serious workplace injury across Alberta's construction, oil and gas, and agricultural sectors. Whether you're a roofing contractor in Calgary navigating steep-pitched residential work, a facilities team in Edmonton managing flat commercial rooftops, or a general contractor on a remote northern Alberta site, Fall Protection Canada gives you CSA-compliant equipment that meets Alberta OHS Code Part 9 — stocked in Canada, shipped fast, and backed by people who know the code. No US warehouse delays. No customs on safety gear you need today.

Fall Protection Equipment for Alberta Worksites

Every product we carry is vetted against CSA Z259 standards and suitable for Alberta worksites regulated under the OHS Act and OHS Code Part 9.

Roof Anchors — 16 kN Alberta OHS Code Rated

Alberta's steep-pitched residential roofs in Calgary and Edmonton and the flat commercial rooftops common across the province need different anchor solutions. We carry permanent and temporary anchors rated to the 16 kN minimum required under OHS Code s.148 — for shingle, standing seam, R-panel, TPO, and built-up flat roofs.

🔩

Horizontal Lifeline Systems for Commercial Rooftops

Alberta's commercial and industrial building stock — from Edmonton warehouse districts to Calgary's high-rise core — often requires engineered horizontal lifeline systems for HVAC, telecom, and solar maintenance. We supply CSA Z259.13 compliant systems with PE documentation for OHS inspector submission.

🦺

Full-Body Harnesses — Body Belts Prohibited in Alberta

Unlike some other jurisdictions, Alberta OHS Code explicitly prohibits body belts for fall arrest — a full-body harness is mandatory. We stock CSA Z259.10 certified harnesses suited to Alberta's wide range of work environments: rooftop, industrial, oil and gas, and heavy construction.

🪝

Shock-Absorbing Lanyards & SRLs

Alberta's post-March 2023 OHS Code update requires lanyards to include a shock absorber certified to CSA Z259.11-17. We carry compliant lanyards and self-retracting lifelines suited to rooftop work, elevated industrial platforms, and the wide-open work zones common on Alberta job sites.

↕️

Vertical Lifelines for Ladders & Climbable Structures

Alberta's updated OHS Code requires continuous fall protection on fixed ladders and climbable structures over 3 metres — a rule tightened in 2023. We carry vertical lifeline systems certified to CSA Z259.2.4 and Z259.2.5, covering the ladders, tanks, silos, and industrial structures common across Alberta's agricultural and energy sectors.

📦

Alberta-Ready Fall Protection Kits

Pre-matched fall protection kits built around Alberta OHS Code requirements — CSA-certified full-body harness, shock-absorbing lanyard, and a 16 kN rated roof anchor. Suitable for roofing crews, general contractors, and facilities teams across Alberta. WCB-ready documentation available.

What Alberta Law Requires

Under the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act and OHS Code Part 9, workers exposed to a fall of 3 metres or more must be protected by a guardrail, travel restraint, or personal fall arrest system — and a written fall protection plan is mandatory.

Standards & Regulations Our Products Meet

  • Alberta OHS Act — Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • OHS Code Part 9 — Fall Protection (Sections 139–161)
  • CSA Z259.15 — Anchorage Connectors (16 kN min.)
  • CSA Z259.10 — Full-Body Harnesses
  • CSA Z259.11 — Personal Energy Absorbers & Lanyards
  • CSA Z259.13 — Flexible Horizontal Lifeline Systems
  • WCB Ready — documentation available on request

Key Differences in Alberta's OHS Code

Alberta's fall protection rules have a few specific requirements that differ from other provinces — know them before you order.

⚖️

16 kN Anchor Minimum

Permanent anchors in Alberta must have a minimum breaking strength of 16 kN per worker under OHS Code Section 148 — or 2× the maximum arresting force. Travel restraint anchors require a minimum of 3.5 kN and must be permanently marked.

📋

Written Fall Protection Plan

OHS Code Section 140 requires a written fall protection plan when guardrails aren't used and a worker may fall 3m+. The plan must identify hazards, describe systems used, and include on-site rescue procedures — calling 911 alone is not sufficient.

🚫

No Body Belts for Fall Arrest

Alberta prohibits body belts as part of a personal fall arrest system. A full-body harness is mandatory for all fall arrest applications. Body belts are permitted only for travel restraint and fall restrict systems.

🔁

Shock Absorber Required

Alberta OHS Code requires lanyards manufactured after March 31, 2023 to include a shock absorber certified to CSA Z259.11-17, ANSI/ASSE Z359.1-2007, or CEN EN 355:2002. We only stock compliant lanyards.

Why Alberta Contractors Order From Us

We exist because Alberta contractors deserve a supplier who understands Canadian safety law and keeps product on Canadian soil — not a US warehouse with a Canadian checkout.

🛡️

We Know Alberta's OHS Code

The 16 kN anchor rule, the mandatory written fall protection plan, the body belt prohibition, the 2023 lanyard updates — we know Part 9 specifically, not just "fall protection in general." That means you get the right product the first time, not a return and reorder.

🚚

Canada-Stocked, Alberta-Fast

We ship from Canadian inventory — no cross-border sourcing, no duty on safety gear, no week-long delays waiting at customs. Calgary and Edmonton typically see fast courier delivery; rural and northern Alberta addresses are no problem either.

📞

Straight Answers, No Runaround

Alberta OHS inspectors don't accept "we weren't sure." Call or text us before you order — we'll tell you exactly which anchor, harness, and lanyard combination satisfies Part 9 for your specific roof type and worksite conditions.

📋

WCB-Ready Documentation

Alberta OHS inspectors and WCB auditors want paperwork. We provide product submittals, engineering documentation, and compliance packages on request — so your fall protection plan has the backup it needs to pass inspection.

Fall Protection Alberta — FAQs

Common questions from Alberta roofing contractors, general contractors, and property owners about fall protection equipment and OHS Code requirements.

Under Alberta OHS Code Part 9, Section 139, any worker exposed to a fall of 3 metres or more must be protected. The hierarchy is: guardrails first, then travel restraint, then personal fall arrest. A personal fall arrest system in Alberta must include a CSA-certified full-body harness, a shock-absorbing lanyard or SRL, and a permanent anchor rated to at least 16 kN. A written fall protection plan including rescue procedures is also required under Section 140.
Alberta OHS Code Part 9 requires fall protection at 3 metres (approximately 10 feet) or more. However, protection may also be required below 3 metres if there is an unusual possibility of injury — for example, if the surface you could fall onto poses greater risk than a flat, solid surface. Guardrails are required at permanent work areas where a worker may fall more than 1.2 metres and less than 3 metres.
Yes. Every roof anchor we carry is certified to CSA Z259.15 and meets the minimum 16 kN breaking strength per worker required under Alberta OHS Code Part 9, Section 148. We can provide product documentation and submittal packages for your site supervisor or Alberta OHS inspector upon request.
Yes — and this is one of the key differences in Alberta. Under OHS Code Section 140, a written fall protection plan is required any time a worker may fall 3 metres or more and guardrails are not in use. The plan must identify the specific fall hazards, describe the fall protection systems being used, and include on-site rescue procedures. Simply calling 911 is not considered an adequate rescue plan under Alberta OHS rules.
Under Alberta OHS Code Part 9, Section 148, permanent anchors must have a minimum breaking strength of 16 kilonewtons (kN) per worker attached — or 2 times the maximum arresting force — in any direction the load may be applied. Travel restraint anchors have a lower requirement of 3.5 kN per worker and must be permanently marked as travel restraint only.
No — not for fall arrest. Alberta OHS Code prohibits the use of body belts in personal fall arrest systems due to the risk of serious injury. A full-body harness is mandatory for all fall arrest applications. Body belts are permitted only as part of a travel restraint or fall restrict system.
Yes — we ship to all of Alberta and every other Canadian province and territory. All inventory is stocked in Canada, so there are no cross-border delays or customs issues. We ship to Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, and rural Alberta communities. Courier and LTL freight options are available depending on order size.
Yes. We provide engineering documentation, product submittal packages, and WCB-ready compliance materials for site supervisors and Alberta OHS inspectors on request. Just contact us after placing your order and we'll get you what you need.
